We asked Google to hold the disclosure until the update was more widely installed. They refused, creating an unnecessary risk for Android users in order to score cheap PR points.

I saw your words on the linked article, and I agree that that is likely 100% why they chose to go public so fast. I'm just not surprised they did. It's a shame that your software had an issue, and it's a shame that Google were able to run with that.

I honestly fail to see how you had to "work around the clock (literally) to fix it" considering all that was really at fault, was where the apk was being saved to, the app is so small I imagine only one person is needed to maintain it, am I honestly missing something here?

In moving to private storage, we ran into permission issues on older versions of Android that we had to sort out, and the change required intense testing as any bug to the updated would break future updates.

Google could have disclosed the fact that a vulnerability was discovered without disclosing sufficient technical details that hackers could readily exploit it.

Ha! You're in no place to critique Google. Your selfish arrogance in assuming you had no need for play store put all your clients at risk. You deserve to lose some trust from your users. Thanks Google for looking out for us when selfish companies won't!

And oh by the way, this 1 wk disclosure is a formal standard for Google, I'm glad they don't change their policy to try to help shady app developers save face!

That's odd. I also identified this security flaw the day after the APK was released; it was a very obvious exploit. I considered notifying Epic, however, your Senior Counsel failed to respond to my prior emails regarding security concerns, so I didn't bother.

Um, no. The irresponsible thing is that you sidestepped the Play Store because greed, which is the only thing that made this possible in the first place.
