So will @FortniteGame only install on Oreo or will it also install on the 90% of other Android phones that don't have the install-time popup and thus leaving millions of insecure phones open to be exploited by malware?https://twitter.com/TimSweeneyEpic/status/1026223580856639488 …
Anybody can take any APK, modify it to include malware, and distribute it on a phishing site. This is true already of all APKs from Google Play, and is unrelated to the original source of the APK.

My point is, people by default will go to the GPS to find the app, like they always have. Since it won't be there, they will likely just search for "Fortnite" in Google and hope that they get to your site and not some other dodgy one.

This status quo trades away the freedom of users and developers for just security theatre. For the rest of my life I’d regret it if Epic had all of this reach and opportunity with Fortnite now, and we didn’t use it to advance the openness of all platforms.

Mobile isn't like Desktop. People have been trained to use devices in a way that keeps them safe since smartphones were invented. Exposing millions to infection and fraud in order to scrape back 30% more revenue is, in my opinion, unethical.

Like hackers already have come down hard on your accounts once you exploded into popularity, you can bet your bottom dollar they will exploit this loophole in anyway they can.
