Important. If the Unknown Sources toggle isn't required for Android Oreo, that's less risky for those users. But folks on earlier versions are at risk -- which is Google's perennial fragmentation problem.https://twitter.com/TimSweeneyEpic/status/1025469881913933824 …

My editorial. I'm not convinced Epic is making the right decision here, but I do see Google sharing some blame if anything happens. What say you? https://www.cnet.com/news/fortnite-is-putting-users-at-risk-to-prove-a-point-about-googles-android-monopoly/ …

Keep in mind, it’s the exact same Fortnite APK with the exact same degree of OS access whether the user were to obtain it from http://epicgames.com or (if it were available) from Google Play. Only difference is that Google runs some virus scanners.

This is all about money. They have the ability to side-step and save 30% and took it. This is an attempt to negotiate a lower cut for guaranteed money makers and actually will help Google and they honestly deserve. Just say it Tim.

Money is indeed a key factor in our strategy - 30% is too high a cost for a digital store. However in discussions with Google, we were very clear that Epic was not seeking a “special deal” with Google Play.
