It seems this is about money not a platform's openness, Epic don't want to give Google anything for access to thier massive user base. If I were Google I would prevent this code from running using the monthly security update.

They’re not just Google’s customers though. They’re also Samsung’s customers, LG’s customers, Xiaomi’s customers, AT&T’s customers, Verizon’s customers, and soon our customers. This idea that operating system vendors own a monopoly on user relationships is bizarre.

Confused over first sentence. Is it because it’s “open” (for some definition...) or because it’s like PC/Mac, which are closed?
-
Windows, Mac, Linux, and Android are open platforms in which users have freedom to install software from any source.

People seems don't know that in China it works this way for years and main mobile apps are all downloaded directly from web sites for Android.
-
This isn’t entirely true, most apps are positioned inside other mother applications like WeChat, QQ, Libe , etc because for one the control these mother apps adhere to the restrictive nature of Chinese internet policies.

It not ourself that we need protection from. I’m not trying to infect myself with malware. It is comforting having trillion dollar resources helping to protect me. Why on earth would I decline that assistance?
-
security *should* be a platform feature, not a store feature.
