Today I will be teaching my undergrad course "How to build a brain from scratch" for the 2nd year running. I've put the materials online - include a document with all lecture slides and notes, which is about as long as a decent novel. Enjoy!

Our latest from . Using a "task remapping" paradigm, we show reinforcement learning problems are abstracted, and these abstract representations can be generalised to new problems.

Incredible stuff by , Ray Dolan, , and ! Factorised codes replay offline to reorganise experiences, offering insight to neural mechanisms of generalisation and inference (as well as demonstrating power of method).

Sorry, sorry. Don't blame Paul. He had to have me on as part of a series for . Everyone's heard enough of me, but if you want to hear about cool work from (Tolman Eichenbaum Machine) and (Human replay), you might find the second half ok

Our new preprint is up on bioRxiv! Is the visual system optimized for prediction of future input? Hierarchical temporal prediction model captures tuning properties of neurons from retina -> V1 simple and complex cells -> MT pattern selective cells.

The recent open reviewing debate is a reminder to treat people like humans first and scientists second. Being kind has always been, and remains, more important than being right.

New preprint – some thoughts (and simulations) on exploration as active inference and active learning. Possibly relevant for ordering craft beer, among other things. With , , Thomas FitzGerald, Martin Kronbichler, . Comments welcome!
