Now out in PNAS! We combine MEG source reconstruction, RSA, and end-to-end deep neural network training to show that "Recurrence is required to capture the representational dynamics of the human visual system".

A little blog post on noise ceilings. If you've ever wondered about the relation between the noise ceilings you come across in the encoding model literature and the ones used in RSA, this might help:

We all want to help address the climate crisis. But it’s such a complex issue that it can be hard to distinguish between data-backed improvements and feel-good distractions. So here's your data-backed guide:

A self-inflicted loss for MPG and Germany, but an exciting outlook for neuroscience...

I was not aware back then, but representational geometries of correlation distances are less rotation invariant than I had expected, so I guess this all makes sense now? (evidence somewhat hidden in this preprint on DNNs )

Dear , when Jim gave a (beautiful) talk in Cambridge a while back, we pondered during the discussion section how hyperalignment could positively affect the consistency of RDMs across participants. Was this result based on correlation distances?

Don't understand why some researchers are still using Dropbox to share their slides and ? Why not much easier, more open, longer lasting, archived (with a DOI) solutions like figshare, zenodo, slideshare, speakerdeck etc? or even Github?

Totally including this in the introduction lecture when we speak about the relation between the number of neurons and cognitive abilities. I mean, they need to get a feeling for 86 billion after all...

A while ago, someone put together a neat twitter thread on the history of (visual/cognitive?) neuroscience. Of course, now I cannot find it anymore. Could anyone point me the right direction? Would love to include it in the lecture.

on how DNN random initialisations can lead to sizeable differences in the representations that networks generate -- a subtle degree of freedom that shouldn't be ignored when applying these models to neural data!
