Not wishing to be a Debbie Downer but clapping for things seems like a broom army activity, to me. It's displacement activity from the anger that should be directed at government failures to provide the NHS with necessary safety equipment.

Let's take firemen's hoses away but clap the heroes as they run in to burning buildings...

I suppose it's better than not clapping, but the broom army after the riots achieved nothing. Thank heavens I was away in 2011 or I'd have been sucked into it as well since I knew the ring leaders. It's well-intentioned and not the point, at all.

Here is something that would actually work: remove the dangerous, incompetent and probably criminal Boris Johnson government from power, replace it with a NU one, including Tory Ministers. Maintain lockdown, test, trace contacts till vaccine works.

Delaying Brexit within that schema is probably a good idea to avoid no-deal, but Brexit is so low down on the list of problems that need to be addressed right now. There may not be a EU in its present form to be a member of in a few years, at this rate.

It’s possible to support key workers and also be very angry with the government.
