BREAKING: The FAA has paused departures to Wilmington (ILM), Myrtle Beach (MYR) and Charleston (CHS) airports “to support the Dept. of Defense in a national security effort.” A short time ago, President Biden said “we’re gonna take care of it” when asked about the Chinese balloon

Darn, and I was going to wave to it.

Based on my sighting, I'm estimating the balloon is somewhere over Upstate SC, perhaps closer to the NC/SC border. Assuming it's still flying at 60,000', this is the path it may take to the coast. You have a good chance of spotting it if you're in this dashed oval! twitter.com/EFisherWX/stat…

Bright moonlight, wind & frigid temps were companions while imaging Comet 2022 E3 (ZTF) tonight in Central VA. On the L U can C a bit of green color and the yellowish dust tail surrounding the comet's coma. On the R the rapid movement can be seen in the 5 minute exposure.

A beautiful scene on this Friday night, but the temp is about to tumble. We're down into the upper 10s overnight.

Blue Bell must not love NC. I have never received any weatherman ice cream.

The guys at @ILoveBlueBell always take care of us for National Weatherperson’s Day, which is Sunday this year! Now to eat my weight in ice cream 😏

No, that's not the Chinese balloon. It's the space station! Great view coming up tonight at 6:44pm for 6 minutes. Set an alarm to check it out. It will be so easy to see. #ncwx

Many of you have asked if the comet is still visible. It is! But, it's tricky. First of all, it's a dim comet. Need to get away from city lights. Second, it's small. Best to use binoculars. Halfway between Little Dipper & Mars as a guide. #ncwx #StormTrack2

An area of light rain is possible across Central NC on Sunday. Most likely location would be for the Sandhills / Raleigh / I-95 region. Much of our Triad area should stay dry all weekend.

Very cold night ahead with temperatures around 20 degrees. Low chance of a shower southeast of the Triad on Sunday. Warming up next week. Much drier weather than we've seen recently!

Lots of interest in suspected Chinese spy balloon. Recent sighting north of Kansas City. Forward trajectory based on atmospheric steering currents would bring it close to St. Louis tonight & into North Carolina Saturday. Follow Wash Post live updates here: bit.ly/3DF1yJl
