Every single person who thinks work requirements are fair or SNAP benefits should read this.
Work requirements on basic safety net services directly harm the people they were designed to help.

Do you think the person who wrote the article could have worked on a farm or in infrastructure? He had a fairly severe undiagnosed disability, many adults do and it is incredibly hard for them to survive, usually through no fault of their own.

I would guess at least half the time I am a lawyer of the day I run across one person in court that has some sort of undiagnosed disability that can easily lead to a criminal record, making survival harder. It can be cognitive impairment, mental illness, trauma, physical, etc.

We are failing the vulnerable, which is both inhumane and a taxpayer burden. Jails are expensive, doesn't fit most solutions. Providing services for those with capacity issues, and perhaps developing better services to help with societal supports is the way we should be headed.

Two quick thoughts: Not sure about your family's specific case, but lots of our farm revenue has been/is subsidized by our governments. Second: Workers in the U.S. are probably under-compensated, given our relative levels of productivity.
