This! I really wish we could get rid of the party system, too. Just vote for people based on their position on the issues.
We need moderates.
Without capable, responsible folks who can find balanced, reasonable policy that appeals to a wide swath of the country, we are left with dramatic political theater.

We already have them. They are progressives who’s reasonable plans to extend healthcare, increase protections for people, make the US a welcoming place, protect our environment for long term, & value peace who have been shouted down by the right minority for decades.

It would be nice to see a NEW 3rd party come out that was based on centrist values and would then have decent politicians join on. A party of true fiscal conservative values (i.e. true balanced budget), moderate to liberal social values, invest into our nation, and compromise

What rubbish. Many of the most effective legislators in American history weren't moderates. Ted Kennedy is the most obvious example.

I would call those baseline qualifications. Regardless of political ideology, I don't think you should be in a leadership role without character and integrity. We should also add compassion and ability to appreciate perspectives with which you disagree.
