The supports I am talking about are not that. How would expanding IEPs/pre-k, working on how we criminalize and expanding healthcare access be taking guns? That's catching problems early.
We do need better enforcement and fine tuning of laws with folks who are restricted access to weapons due to dv/assault, and better laws for mental health crisis that include threats of harm to others or oneself.
I don't propose a minority report world. I do think we need better options when someone is clearly losing it and making threats.
Rather than embracing ever-more punitive measures in schools, a shift toward teaching pro-social skills & creating emotionally safe schools would go a long way.
