I can think of at least 3 of my cases in the past year where gun(s) were removed & either "held by" or "sold to" a parent of someone who was a threat to themselves &/or others.
In at least 2 of these cases the gun was returned & the threatening behavior continued.

The entire mess this country is in right now is because of parents. Lousy parents. Coddling parents. Absent parents. The ones that give the guns back are delusional (ie: Sandy Hook). But let’s blame the

I didn't blame the NRA in my tweet. I've actually tried to engage the NRA for solutions.
There are people who do not take mental health and aggression seriously enough, particularly when combined with a weapon.
It's real.
It's happening in Maine.

...and it's happening with enough frequency that I've seen it that multiple times in under a year in a solo law practice. The clock is ticking for something worse than what we've seen so far in Maine in this realm. We should be discussing how to get ahead of it.
