First step - reduce your income! If you don't make enough, you can't pay, right? The I quit my job/got fired/my hours reduced/not I'm single and need more free time so I am taking on a lesser paid job/no overtime is common, but my favorite the commission sales job.

I have to stay within my budget. This stuff just can't be cut. I'M OBLIGATED! Do you want me to file bankruptcy because I've had to borrow everything from the kids piggy bank? They'll be fine and you can get another job for your needs. Why is this my problem?

We have to have a balanced budget. It's law! It's responsible! Our problem is social security/medicare/medicaid. We simply can't repay the $ or contribute more so we'll have to restructure it so it's there later. Some is better than none! Quit whining! Get a job!

When you set up a system to make it so you can't pay, it's very easy to make it look very rational. Not collecting enough, overspending, then demanding a budget that cuts your moral and legal obligations is crap. Don't fall for it.

Your representative should be... 1. Smart enough to see this coming 2. Compassionate enough to think it's wrong 3. Wise enough to do better We should be fiscally prudent. We should *not* manufacture a crisis through poor choices, play hero, then blame others.

Remember that right now we have exactly the government we deserve. If that doesn't work for you, choose different. Get educated. Get involved. Ask questions. Challenge your representatives. Vote wisely. Deserve the government we want. /end
