Their assertion of "fact" is an expression of their feeling. Better to ask why they feel that way, see if they are open to discussion, etc. I've had a lot of conservatives express similar sentiment to me, but also that it wasn't how they wanted to feel.
There will always be X% that just want a fight. My experience has been the vast majority feel increasingly isolated and really want to feel like we are still in the same country. Calling names, responding to vitriol with vitriol, etc doesn't fix that.
