It's not about waffling, it's about collaboration and being open to a range of ideas. I have very strong opinions. My opinions aren't mutually exclusive to other people having strong opinions, and often multiple sets of strong, seemingly-conflicting ideas get great outcomes.

I very much agree with you on the role of moderates. We are seekers of common ground for shared goals - the glue and the lubricant that makes democracy function well. I have regularly said you don't want a whole congress of people like me, but you had best have some of us.
