A possible middle path is to expand Medicaid to cover everyone (and replace Medicare; put everyone under one umbrella). Let the private companies continue to sell supplemental policies if they like. But the expanded Medicaid will need experienced people from ins companies...
I think with a topic as broad as healthcare it is particularly important to go into the conversation with a really open mind, willing to consider all solutions as components.
