On @NPR today I heard @MaxBoot say he is no longer a Republican, nor is he a Democrat...he is homeless.
If you feel left out of the parties, welcome home. Non-partisan means we can just be us, and work together for a better #Maine and a better US.

Plenty of people enrolled in parties are 'just being themselves.' I would guess most of them.

Moreover, most people realize that working with a political party is more effective. Nearly all indie and 3rd party candidates lose, some (like Nader, Gary Johnson and Jill Stein) are spoilers. All indies in the Senate caucus with a party.

It is nearly impossible for a functional moderate to survive a primary from either party. Moderate is a voice that is needed in our policial discourse and no longer valued by the big 2. If you think a moderate is a spoiler, put forward a more electable candidate.

I disagree. In many ways one of the problems with parties is they tend to moderate (move to the center) candidates who I think could win with a well articulated aspirational vision. Obviously there are exceptions.

I don't know that the sentiments are mutually exclusive. The parties feel like they have moved, particularly the GOP, and that leaves a bigger space in the middle to compare moderation in.

The “center” is nothing but a moving “split the baby” target. It stands for nothing in particular & compromise (not consensus or cooperative) policies tend to be bad policy. I’m a unabashedly partisan because I’m partial to standing for certain aspirations and ideas.

Hard to know what "centrist" position on health care is: Only kick like 5 million off insurance? On taxes: Only cut taxes of the super rich by 10 percent?

Tiffany, What is your position on health policy?

What we have is not functional, neither is ripping it away. We should be making incremental adjustments to current law to address pain points. I was incredibly disappointed that the GOP position was sabotage rather than collaborate.

I also think we should permit consumer and business buy-in to MaineCare and use the "profit" to reduce deductibles, expand coverage and increase provider payouts.

Ah, the public option. That had majority support in the House and 59 votes in the Senate in 2009. Not a single Republican voted for it.
