Most of the tax pain will not be until after the fall election. Before the fall election, many people will likely see a drop in their withholdings. Lots of people don't like it, me included, but I don't know if that will translate to election impact.

People generally don’t notice modest changes in withholding, especially since other things also change - hours, benefits.

Also over 80% of Americans are paid by direct deposit. To even see one's pay stubs takes real effort.

I'm not trying to be contrary. There is a large swath of people not being captured in the polling. There was a time in the not too distant past when many lived in the world of 'meh' when it came to politics...that world is still there for a huge amount of people.
