Unfortunately, we have a #RiggedSystem that makes it very difficult for so-called 3rd party candidates to win non-presidential elections and impossible for them to win the presidency. It's how you end up with wicked pendulum swings & compromise being political suicide. At a minimum we do need a more moderate third party so the current 2 can put forth realistic policy without "working with the enemy"...because we are all Americans & it's ok to be diverse.
...better than ok, because diversity makes better policy.
