So trade schools? Apprenticeships? I have 6 figures of student loans myself (self-inflicted attorney issue). I don't think everyone needs or wants college. I also don't think Walmart wage are likely to tackle high household debts as a second job on a practical level.

What about those who have no other mean for college but want to go - should we not let them borrow for tuition at low rates?

That is true, but that also presumes we have appropriately allocated salaries commiserate with societal values, and if that were the case, good teachers would probably be paid more than many other professions.
