Those are different things.
Social Security & Medicare are government run insurance programs with premiums advanced during working years. Income tax pays for the day to day grind.
A better comparison might be would you give up roads & military for income tax.

Maybe we should...pay off some of that debt? Social Security is an insurance program, fundamentally different from safety nets like TANF. It has been paid into for a working lifetime by most in the US & factored into retirement plans. We should stop with the cookie jar raiding.

You don't see the disconnect in this? "Hey, you paid in your whole life, but the people you elected spent it, so...enjoy retirement without anything you paid in. Bummer"

You have resources many others do not if you have the ability to forgo collection. What do you suggest for those who paid in their whole lives to the promise of their AAA credit rating government and have no other retirement?

Huh. Well Jared, I was sincerely interested in your proposed solutions. I'm a big fan of collaborative problem solving. Hit me up if you can figure out how to "wind down" "entitlements" without totally screwing lower income areas like #me02.
