Whether all deserve coverage = basic dispute you can't compromise away. #mepolitics

It may also not be that substantively relevant depending on the solution. A solution that works for GOP & it happens to increase coverage/improve care = win A solution that provides universal coverage & happens to meet GOP cost/choice goals = win

No such solution exists. There isn't always an ooey gooey center. Sometimes politics is about choices.

I don't know that I agree. There are certainly trade-offs. I work in an area of law where winners & losers aren't a thing most of the time. There is almost always a solution everyone can live with that functions.

You won't get exactly what you want most of the time, but you can get what everyone needs to function most of the time.

Yeah that's not how the health care debate has been going at federal level. It isn't lack of imagination. It's that two parties have different priorities.

I agree. They absolutely have different priorities...and a stalwart determination to vilify the other's position.

I’m sorry but the “villains” are no where near equal. The
#GOP has been at the forefront of roadblocking any decent progress toward universal coverage for decades.1 reply 0 retweets 1 like -

I did not assign a value to the villainy, it isn't productive to declare them even or one worse. Both sides feel the other is fundamentally wrong in their beliefs. That does not mean that a solution palatable to both sides is impossible.

Of course it's productive. It's why we have elections!

Productive for elections =/= productive for proposed legislation with existing congress. Until the composition is changed it's a viscious circle.

I think you’ve put your finger on the real solution, it’s time to change the composition dramatically. Any “compromise” in the present situation is a false positive; it’s almost always overwhelmingly an erosion of truly serving people.

We absolutely need to change it. Congress should be a conference of the conscientious, feeling the weight of each word to which they subject their constituents, not a cackle of hyenas.
