Collectors position themselves as if they’re only ones that can provide care & can be praised for taking on such burden, drawing this conclusion from their own white privileged background+failing to acknowledge their own role in reproducing whiteness. 2/

Such thinking reflects what Joyce King calls dysconscious racism—a tacit acceptance of norms+white privilege that justifies inequity+ exploitation, distorts awareness+ sense of agency & leaves no room for imagining practical possibilities for social change. 3/
