can we get a Tweet-Above-Replacement (TAR) metric for measuring tweet quality? Maybe it’s tweets that span off good threads or something like that? IDK just throwing something out there

Disrupt, disrupt against the innovator’s dilemma. Do not go gentle into that good night. RIP Clayton Christensen.

RIP , who influenced the strategy of an entire generation of founders. Christensen's term “disruptive” is used loosely today to mean any big change—but it actually has a precise, technical meaning. In honor of his legacy, here's what “disruptive” actually means:

I might be convinced tho on empirical grounds that if student debt forgiveness “lifts all boats” & makes everyone off materially better then we should do it. If it allows more people access to family formation, housing etc it could be the stimulus we need. Morality be damned!

It is unfair to them. This is why BIG change is hard. Perhaps a more fair approach would be letting educational loans be dischargeable through bankruptcy. It relieves the currently crushed, is neutral towards people who already paid & didnt need it & aligns w/ general debt rules.

They want good incentives to drive the trolly vs a political switch that can be flipped. A top-down political solution feels unfair to the last cohort of ppl who had to endure the unjust system. Suggesting these people lack empathy towards their fellow travelers is unsympathetic.

I keep seeing fairness & this pic thrown around when people talk student debt forgiveness. Proponents of debt forgiveness seem to think it’s more fair to discharge the debt no matter what. Where as anti-SDF people aren’t necessarily against reform.

I think the frontier + new state formation relieved a lot of pressure from that massive expansion. I think at full capacity that sort of pop growth would be tough to manage. Though the US is huge & seems like it could handle 1 billion people tho subways would need *major* work

IMO Eric is right to beat him up over being at Evergreen vs a tier 1 research place. Bret clearly *had* potential as a researcher & that was a major side of Bret that The Portal was supposed to explore/expose.

Bret is basically at the forefront of a couple of major present day topics: mice models are worse than we thought, telomeres/aging/ senescence, cancer research back in ~1999! He’s arguably at the knowledge frontier making progress. That’s impressive!

Additionally, his tail has elements of mystery & betrayal. Which makes for good story telling. It’s easy to empathize with him & it’s clear from his experience there’s something wrong with peer review. It would have been great if they talked about good reforms but they didn’t.

This is a misguided summary of the significance behind Bret’s experience (if true). I understood it as & what Bret later focuses on pulling a string about theory & eventually unraveling well established reasons for why mice models are bad/worse than we thought for human research.
