    Must read from Stock market shenanigans of late reveal rigged & manipulated predatory system that began w/ Carter Admin & Faustian bargain of trading in retirement & pension for 401K & pied piper piggy-backed promises of upwardly slanted returns.

    A couple days back, I wrote up my best understanding of what happened with /r/wallstreetbets and meme stocks like Gamestop, trying to show how all the different, seemingly contradictory takes on the underlying financial stuff could all be true. 1/

    By insisting that his lawyers argue to the Senate that the election really *was* “stolen,” Trump isn’t just refusing to contest the *actual* ground on which he was impeached (that he incited the violence on January 6); he’s effectively arguing that the violence was *justified.*

    /3 Performative litigation is a scourge. Suing as a vehicle of politics, suing to pwn the other side, suing to fundraise, suing to preach to the choir — these things are a cancer. They are particularly destructive when used to attacked speech.

    Do corrupt pol leaders corrupt even those Americans acting in good faith? I believe they can. They do when parties acting in good faith assume that political bargains are the same as adopting the mendacity as the truth. These distinctions are important to emphasize right now.

    It is clear that unless something changes within the value system of the GOP, Republicans will use power to ruthlessly undermine democracy to keep power. Only the GOP can reform and save itself. But, Democrats can fight against the manifestations of these authoritarian impulses.

    Did Trump commit a criminal act? There are laws against treason, sedition, rebellion & insurrection. 6 Jan was violent attack on gov’t where expression constitutionally protected, crossed “into actions that fundamentally betray and threaten our government”

    NSA also uses routine historical habit of playing hide & seek w/ requests for information or attempts by oversight committees to gain answers to their questions. Response mantra is telling them what NSA wants them to hear & not what they need to know. Secrecy keeps truths hidden.

    Worse is use of ‘hidden’ accesses in critical IT/net infrastructure. Weakens enterprise security, incentivizes active exploits & opens systems to APTs instead of defending against them w/ enormous compromise & cost to privacy & IP. Secrecy simply makes US & others more vulnerable

    During the Trump administration we relied on whistleblowers to tell us the truth, because there were so many lies. Most WBs were hailed as heroes. A few, like my daughter, were persecuted & jailed. Today, my daughter spends her 1335th day imprisoned.
