There are too many people, especially among the intelligentsia, who will never appreciate the things that have made this country great until after those things have been destroyed — with their help. Then, of course, it will be too late.

For sure. The age-old-adage that we don't truly appreciate something until it's gone. The intelligentsia are no exception here. History is the best teacher of them all (especially for the "intelligentsia") We'll never know where we're headed until we can realize where we've been.
