"What can we be certain of from history? That human beings have been wrong innumerable times, by vast amounts, and with catastrophic results. Yet today there are still people who think that anyone who disagrees with them must be either bad or not know what he is talking about."

The absolute insanity of the justification "well that's my opinion and I'm entitled to it"... NO! every opinion is open to scrutiny with reasonableness, intelligence and facts! You don't get automatic equity in a discussion with justification of the fact that it's your opinion.

Ultimately the problem is that people haven't learned from history and their mistakes. When examining ones' decisions and failure points they're not applying rationale thought. This leads to a lack of wisdom. A lack of wisdom is what's instilled arrogance in modern culture.

Ego is the problem. An insatiable beast that can undo many because they do not learn to be grateful or humble.

Whenever men, inspired by God or his word, establish laws or mores that benefit those affected by them, it doesn't take long for godless, human, moral entropy to kick in and start the erosion of the same. The natural inclination is to graduate from good to bad.

I have always been a Democrat and "liberal." To my astonishment and dismay, my roommate in college, who was the most intelligent person that I ever met, was a conservative Republican. When we disagreed politically he would always win the argument. He is sorely missed.
