I would like to ask one to be careful on not interpretation of Gauteng data from middle December. The reason is that Gauteng get quite empty and 100,000s of migrant workers and holiday makers leave. Tip, get a look at Beta wave at similar time last year in Gauteng

Coal consumption has increased by 9% in 2021. Coal is the worst source of CO2, and the lowest hanging fruit of the energy transition. Even that fruit is not picked. EU must impose carbon border adjustments, whereas 🇩🇪 and 🇵🇱 must exit coal asap!

Clear evidence that covid cases have peaked in province in South Africa suggests we don’t fully understand epidemiology of this variant. The very rapid rise and then decline in cases suggests many possibilities, including that we’re missing a lot of subclinical infection

Took a look at the omicron data out of stress/curiosity (reposting with more data, disclaimer: I am NOT an epidemiologist). Cases are way up in South Africa, deaths are not. Since deaths lag cases, not clear to eye whether low deaths are unusual or just not here yet. (1/3)
