Very pleased to share the preprint to our work with Tu Nguyen, and on differences in fermentation capabilities (specifically, the ability to produce Short Chain Fatty Acids from different dietary fibers) between healthy individuals:

Really excited for the second paper of the ex vivo series with , , Tu Nguyen, and BE summer UROP Hunter Richardson. Instead of focusing on SCFA production from prebiotics, we focus on an often overlooked byproduct, intestinal gas (1/4)

Very solid review of excessive extrapolation from murine models and other shortcomings in microbiome science. People will lose patience with the microbiome if these issues aren't addressed (they already are...), which will delay its clinical application:

Variability in gut bacteria associates w& can predict variability in responses to food ( ). But WHY? unravel an important piece in the personalized nutrition puzzle: variability in fermentation. Congrats!

Main take-home for personalised nutrition and precision medicine: Different individuals or patients should consume different dietary fibers if they want to produce a specific Short Chain Fatty Acid (e.g. butyrate).

Main scientific take-homes are: -fermentation capabilities vary widely in the healthy population and can be probed with an ex vivo setup -fermentation capability is fairly stable through time -microbiota composition is predictive of functional fermentation capability

Did Michelangelo's David have heart failure? "Knowing the fundamentals, careful observation, and always asking why are key in understanding medicine and making accurate diagnoses. This was true in 1504 and is true today."

New paper claims that people have different glucose response to exercise and that these personalized responses are mediated by the microbiome and can be predicted by it

Might sound obvious, but make extra sure to eat lots of fibre after a course of antibiotics, folks!

Repeated stress can lead to an immune response and the resulting inflammation can lead to depression. But what role do microbes play❓ Interesting post by via

Our latest via examines trial activity and finds considerable inefficiencies- Over 50% of trials were discontinued early or not published 4yrs after completion.
