This is a good start; all parents should be screened for signs of perinatal mental health complications both during & after all pregnancies. Hospitals & insurance providers must also widen their support to prevent trauma in the first place.

What if, someone like me who is 100 percent permanent PTSD from the Army, does that mean my PTSD is gonna be even greater

-
Quite possible. Be sure you have a loving and supportive network that knows about your concerns and will help take care of you.

Thank you guys researching this and making moves to help new parents with NICU experiences. My son was in the NICU and has Hirschsprungs disease. He still has some issues but is doing great thank God. If I even mention the NICU I tear up to this day. Its traumatic

I can imagine it would be - they’re so tiny to have such big hurdles to overcome. As a parent, you feel so helpless.
Glad your son is doing well. - Voir les réponses

My kid was 2 1/2 months early. Looking back I know it was traumatic for me. She is perfect now and about to start college, but I could have used counseling afterwards. I was afraid to let her out of my sight even @ home.

I was in the same position as you when I had my son at 28 weeks. Don’t know about you but providing me with reading material on how to cope with potential defects for premies sure didnt help. I’m glad we’re progressing.
