Dana, it's disingenuous to claim attribution for crime reduction given the SIP. If anything burglaries and property theft is UP:https://twitter.com/michelletandler/status/1257429937440657409?s=19 …

Michelle Tandler 🔦 @michelletandlerSF Crime PSA #3: Burglaries are now up 77% YoY for April on the eastern side of SF. My hypothesis is that many in our community relied on shoplifting. With stores boarded up they are resorting to home burglaries. If you don't have a security system, consider investing. pic.twitter.com/2ZRLg8UJJFShow this thread2 replies 1 retweet 4 likes -
Property theft up? Larceny theft (pick-pocketing, shoplifting, etc) down 5x or 800 incidents in the period. Burglary up 1.8x or 80 incidents in the period (not great, but relatively small number). These are both property theft, so net down 720.

People literally shoplift in SF filling up bags and walking out and don’t get arrested so of course the numbers go down becatse if you don’t even get arrested you won’t be prosecuted and won’t show up in stats
