Observe a stressful thought. Notice how your shoulders tense, your stomach tightens, you hold your breath. Keep watching that same thought. Don’t push it away, instead change your reaction to it. Breathe deeply, let go, relax your body. You’re okay. It’s just a thought. Breathe.

Akin in spirit to the instruction a young Jack Kornfield was given by his teacher when Jack complained about the monastery noises bothering him in meditation. His teacher replied, "Oh, I rather think it is you who is bothering the noises. Leave them alone. Don't bother them."
