The meshes currently haven't been found because the current m2 file is the same as the retail one, just need to wait for a future alpha build

I wouldnt say it replaces it necessarily, theres no evidence that is the case. All the customisation is very incomplete so it's hard to get a good picture what will and won't be happening atm
