i know that the paper i published is just a correlational study but re: insomnia. do you have studies that show ill effects of insomnia itself? could it be that x causes both insomnia and ill effects?

see here, and you can trivially experiment on yourself- just try not sleeping for the next five days and see what happenshttps://www.scientificamerican.com/article/how-long-can-humans-stay/ …

interesting; however, some of this seems fishy e.g. "The easy experimental answer to this question is 264 hours (about 11 days)." which is trivially not true. The guy who set the record planned to not sleep for 11 days from the start (to set a world record) -- wasn't his limit!

Then you should beat him by doing 12 days

probably worth throwing in some cognitive tests like dual n-back or raven's matrices at 20 hour increments

ok, I haven's slept for 40 hours on Jan 2-3 Very little change in cognitive state (choice reaction task, mental rotation; visual recognition; 2 back); would need to be stimulated by videogames regularly to not fall asleep

within the next several weeks will try 60 hours. This time will just measure 1. reaction time 2. mental subtraction of 3 digit numbers (have been doing all my life so hopefully stable performance + includes working memory and attention) on this site: https://arithmetic.zetamac.com/game?key=fa4d49f4 …

oh also, @The_Lagrangian -- now I intuitively understand what bad about insomnia (funny that I didn't before) -- the problem is not that you can't fall asleep, but that you feel sleepy and can't work either. Thank you for letting me grasp this!
