I'm disappointed in the number of people saying that they don't want to see romance or lovey dovey stuff on their timelines today, just because "couples get to flaunt it every day." Child, allow me to tell you what nobody told me when I was that way. (Thread incoming.)

You know, telling people that if they don't like something, it's because they're childish and immature is pretty presumptuous.

Read the whole thread, where I say that it's okay to be upset and not like something, but that doesn't make it okay to ruin it for other people.

Thats...really not the point, the entire thread comes across as having this "No, let me tell you what is and isnt acceptable in the grownup world and how you should feel you sweet immature child" vibe. Youre not going to get anyone on side by talking down to and patronizing them.

I'm sorry that sharing my experience and how I grew as a person comes across as condescending, I suppose? I'm certainly not talking down to anyone, as much as I was expressing disappointment in people who hate seeing others happy. Can't we just be happy for others?

But hating seeing others happy isnt the same as hating others being happy. And when one of the biggest emotional issues you have in life is loneliness, the inescapableness of things like this can be devastating. And "just being happy for others" can be a lot harder than it sounds

(I don't have a problem with v day, but I have enough similar issues that I really strongly relate to people who do. And I do feel like I'm defending a small minority of the people this is aimed at here, but shit like this and other people just not caring in the slightest -

Well, as I'm helping a friend through similar issues, let's find some common ground here. I will grant that you are right on your first point: those are not the same thing, and it can be hard to "just be happy for others." But this isn't "aimed" at anyone; it's not an attack.

I just hope to encourage people to be happy for others, and know that they can better themselves: if they have a problem with their emotions, not being in a relationship, whatever the case my be. And if you have been driven to self harm, I hope you have gotten the help you need.
