Lorenz loves to attack people on Twitter, then delete her Tweets / undo her retweets without acknowledging them – a violation of ’ social media guidelines for its reporters. Fortunately, we saved the receipts. Here’s where the story gets REALLY twisted.

In February 2021, Markovich gets socially murdered by extremists. Their attack begins on and spills onto the rest of the internet. You can read the full story in the thread linked here, but the key thing is: Markovich didn’t do ANYTHING wrong.

Ever had mass hysteria weaponized against you? How about a mob? Ever been branded a RACIST ABUSER by a New York Times reporter? How about accused of making thousands of people suicidal? David Markovich went 4 for 4 and lived to tell the tale. Barely. A THREAD:

Destroying Markovich is fun for her. It's sick. Lorenz claims Markovich “… told Jewish users who were subject to anti-semitic attacks that CH didn’t have issues with anti-Semitism” (2). She also asserts he “minimized anti-semitism” (7). Bad-faith bunk.

Lorenz quotes Markovich’s 12/10/20 tweet (3) as though it's evidence of her claim. But all he said was that in his first 2 months on Clubhouse, he hadn’t *personally* heard anti-Semitism on the app.

To be fair, Markovich's tweet was a bit tone-deaf, and probably didn't need to be articulated, given many people HAD reported hearing anti-Semitism on the app. But the guy is Jewish, and is entitled to share what his experience had been.

But Lorenz, who IS NOT Jewish, omits altogether that David Markovich IS. He and 5 siblings grew up in a Yeshivish Orthodox community in Far Rockaway, Queens, and he spent 3 years studying Talmud at a yeshiva in the center of Jerusalem. Here he is at his Bar Mitzvah in 2002.

It's actually even worse than just ignoring his Judaism. Lorenz' phrasing – “David is the man who told Jewish users…” (2) – actively insinuates that Markovich is *NOT* Jewish! Jewish law has a term this: MOTZI SHEM RA, or the grave sin of saying defamatory lies.

Lorenz also accuses Markovich of “attacking POC” (4), “being insensitive to the Asian community” (5), and “allow[ing] medical disinfo on Covid 19 to spread” (6). Lorenz does not provide evidence for these claims or ask Markovich for comment.

The extremists pass around a "Sh*tty Media Men"-style Google Doc to crowdsource kompromat on Markovich. It accuses him of causing mass suicidality and conspires to destroy his livelihood. Vajresh Balaji contributes to it. Lorenz signal boosts and endorses it.

Lorenz eventually deletes her tweets, but the NextShark/Yahoo article retains her vicious smear to this day. She never acknowledges the deletions. The first search result for ‘David Markovich’ continues to be the defamatory article – a scarlet letter he lives with to this day.

Should the New York Times employ a journalist who weaponizes lies and hearsay to destroy a private citizen based on personal dislike? That's up to them to decide. In the meantime, the world needs to know what Taylor Lorenz is capable of.
