Actually, thats not true, look it up. The top 1% actually pays 21% of taxes, but they own 40% of the wealth. So they are by definition not paying their fair share

We are talking about 2 completely different things, I am still advocating for a progressive tax code, which is the only way this is actually possible. You are talking about the percentage of the individuals income, I'm talking about the percentage of total income earned

I am referring to net income. I’m simply not sure why you would advocate for a tax that progressively increases the more you make though. What is the rational basis for that, as opposed to everyone paying the same percentage of total income

Because people who have more can afford to give more, its not a difficult concept.
