It wasn't a left or right thing. There was a review for Assassins Creed that had the criticism that npcs don't change their behaviours or speech until major events in the story. Lo Ping mentioned that most of the population acts that way.
That may have been the origin of the meme, but it's been largely used against the regressive left. Nobody uses the NPC meme to make fun of people on the right. Memes can transform as they are picked up by more people.
I think the reason it seems that way is because it's the most popular political orientation online. I just took it as being uninspired. People that use low effort talk show host verified account speak. Leftist journos taking it personally was funny, but i think it had more to say
I certainly agree with you that the amount of outrage over it is hilarious
Yeah, but that's a real minority of its usage. Pretty much every time I see the NPC meme its lefties that are targeted. I'd like it more as a meme if it were used to call out both sides more often, but it is what it is.
I can see that.
It’s horrifyingly funny on top of that. Because the regressive left act like robots when you try to debate with them. Which makes this meme clever nevertheless.
Not to mention the irony. *Calls Conservatives (and even just people they disagree with) Russian Bots for 2 years* *Cries about NPC being "duhumanizing"
That's horrifying
