'It is important for the Government to welcome the commitment and put it into law. The aviation industry is outside the UK's formal carbon budgets. [Putting the commitment into law] would put a brake on growth'

UK aviation's net zero plan 'not credible' says AEF's Cait Hewitt on 's Sarah Jane Mee show 'They can promise what they like because they are not being held to account for their emissions – [allowing them] to get the permission to grow they so desparately want'

Aviation industry plan for being carbon neutral by 2050 has 4 elements * efficiency - range from possible to speculative * biofuels - history of driving deforestation * air traffic control - small gains * offsetting - track record of being ineffective

I used to think you needed to fly to have an adventure; last year, I quit. I wrote about how inspired me to stay grounded; not flying changed my life in *major* ways, but I am really glad I did it.

4/6 This message has been supported by 'eco-campaigning' band Massive Attack who said: "In the face of Climate Emergency does a city with a population of 460k really need to expand an airport that already provides capacity for 10 million [passengers]?"

Tune in to The Sarah-Jane Mee Show at 4.10pm today to hear AEF's Cait Hewitt give a critical appraisal of Sustainable Aviation's carbon roadmap.

Sustainable Aviation's carbon roadmap should not give the industry a green light to grow without a Government plan in place to limit emissions. To date, industry goals have failed to prevent absolute aviation emissions from increasing. AEF reaction
