New research out in @JournalCancer finds high prevalence of non-disclosed COIs among @ASCO guideline authors. Specifically, of 59 authors who disclosed no conflicts (and had verifiable records), 55 (93%) had non-disclosed COI. 1/https://twitter.com/JournalCancer/status/1156234303531036672 …

Financial conflicts of interest (FCOIs) among authors of ASCO guidelines are common and are not disclosed in a substantial proportion of authors according to a new @pmcancercentre study—urging the need for improved transparency of FCOIs http://ow.ly/VHWM30pfzO5  pic.twitter.com/VBsvXU1KdA

An accompanying editorial by Dr. @CliffordHudis of ASCO and Dr. Robert Carlson of NCCN proposes clearer and more standardized guidance to physicians regarding disclosure reporting. https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/cncr.32407 … 2/

I am unsure that a large % of the nondisclosure is due to erroneous Open Payments data, but agree that confusion over where/when/what to report is at least partially responsible. And that this could be greatly improved, in line with the authors' proposals. 3/

In this discussion of COI disclosure, however, I will continue to lean on the words of Dr. Ian Tannock at #asco19: "Disclosure of a conflict is not enough. We need to stop having these conflicts." https://twitter.com/TheWonkologist/status/1154409680761950208?s=20 … /4
