A roller coaster camera manages to get a high quality photo of you speeding past but security cameras still only get a blurry shot of robber standing still.

If those security camera photos could be sold for ridiculous prices to gullible and easily amused tourists, they'd be high quality too.

That's because security systems take ok video to record days or weeks of video, and individual pictures from the video will be poor quality. Theme park pictures take one, high speed picture so it can be very high quality.

Security cams need to run for a long time, so they have bad quality to decrease the size of the footage, unlike roller coaster cams that don't need to run 24/7 and their pictures are sold to consumers who expect a high quality image/video for a hefty price.

Yes, I know so. High quality cameras are only $39-99 apiece. The DVRs are $160-200. They do record on a loop and delete the oldest footage. Get a 1tb hard drive for 4 cameras and it’ll record for months. Has nothing to do with the quality. Some places just have antique cameras.

Because security cameras have to on, taking video, all the time and that's a lot more money than the split second of people on a roller coaster and only taking pictures. There's a big difference.

That's why they're usually in black and white too. Because color is expensive as well to shoot in high dynamic range, 4k video. But it's better than no security.
