great thought, but i dont think the city is a healthy place to “farm” consumable plants/fruits. tons of pollution in the city from car fumes to factorys ect

Imagine the homeless turf wars over the cherry tree on 3rd street. Set up a gopro and you've got the next internet sensation.

In my city, Edmonton Ab Canada, there's a site that lists fruit trees and their locations. As well, they tell you what is in season. You are allowed to sample.

How about, the money used to plant and maintain those trees be used instead to feed and house the homeless.

Well, it isn't as simple as just planting a fruit tree. Fruit trees are very labor intensive. They require constant care in order to even reach the stage of producing fruit. Year round care is expensive, time consuming and doesn't guarantee they won't die from pests or disease.

Plus having to clean up the mess of fruit falling 2 the ground...

How about community gardens that the less fortunate get involved in maintaining for payment in produce, and the rest sold for equipment and funding of the gardens.
