I saw a post a while ago, it said that there's two different meanings of the word "respect" : "treating someone as a person" ans "treating someone as an autority". And sometimes people will say "if you don't respect me I won't respect you" and they mean (1/2)

(2/2) "If you don't treat me as an autoriy I won't treat you as a person" and they think they're being fair but they're not.
-
You somehow spelt “authority” wrong both times in two different ways
-
Oops, the first one is because in french it's "autorité" so I didn't know there was a(n?) h. And the other one is just because my computer doesn't work and I can't type on my phone without making mistakes xD (But let's say I made it on purpose because "fuck authority" :p)

Respect has to be earned.
#respect -
That's not how it works tho
-
Thats depends on what you call respect Are you talking about "treating someone as a person" kind of respect, or "treating someone as an autority" kind of respect? I think there's a lot of misunderstanding because people don't always talk about the same "respect"
-
I'm talking about the treating people as a person thing You can respect someone without establishing some kind of hierarchy/authority between you and them
-
Yes, I understood you meant that but I think the other person meant the other meaning of respect, and that's why you didn't agree (but I might be wrong)!

The get mad at you when you get mad, because we're onoy allowed 2 emotions and conformity right? Otherwise we're just a bunch of rebellious kids. Some are, but some aren't. The mad thing applies to more than just adults though.

It freaks the Boomers out when they realize I only give them the respect they've earned from me. "Kids are so disrespectful these days" Well, then be someone worth restpecting.

This isn't just adults vs kids. It's adults vs adults, too. As anyone who's worked in retail or food service will tell you.

Ironic. They could save others from disrespect, but not themselves. (No one's going to get the reference.)
