Scientists say they could actually wipe out mosquitoes with a genetic disease whenever they want to but don’t because of the effect on other plants and animals like bats

and you know, the other potential side effects of releasing a genetic disease into the wild

Actually the disease is only dangerous to mosquitoes because it is genetic, it’s passed on through reproduction and each generation of mosquitoes gets weaker and eventually die. They’ve actually used it to kill flocks(?) of mosquitoes in labs successfully.
