I mean can they die? They can get ripped teared and pulled apart but what counts as death? They don't even have organs or blood or any sort of organic material to keep them functioning so they're not even technically alive

Theyre scared of "death" during the third movie when they get put in the trash place with the fire hole (idk I havent watched it in years)

It's because no kid would ever play with them again. Toys are brought to life thanks to the love of their kid playing with them. If they're in the trash, they can't wake up ever again, which is pretty much death. Each session of play "charges" them to be able to wake up after.
