You really do owe them, if they've put a roof over your head put food on your plate at night then you owe them

If anybody actually believes this you need to rethink things. If you have normal, not scummy parents then you owe them literally everything.

How about respect and the fact they raised them?
-
Kids don't ask to be born. It's selfish to think that they owe us something. We're the selfish ones for wanting to bring them into the world
-
Are you saying you'd rather not exist? I have to disagree.
-
Well 1) the world is a terrible place and 2) I never said that. I'm saying that to expect something back from children when they didn't ask
-
Like respect and gratitude? Too much to ask?
-
It's not but gratitude for what? People choose to put themselves in debt to bring a life into this world. It's not the child's fault.

If your parents do their best to raise you, you do owe them, but if they're deadbeat parents then you don't owe them.

If you're able to give back you should, your parents do a lot for you as you grow up. Although it shouldn't be expected of you to do so

So did parents ??? Nobody brought anyone into this crazy world and it's normal to have expectations from the person who you love

Guess my folks DIDN'T smash then.

Morals and values play a big part in this topic. To be able to respect your parents you need to be taught respect.

Imagine you were born and then your parents left you immediately. Imagine what that would be like. Now go thank your parents.
-
You basically described abandoned orphans
-
Exactly. Nobody WANTS to be an abandoned orphan.
