        It would be "do you not dare", wouldn't it? Like "Can't you eat that?" would be "Can you not eat that?" not "Can not you eat that?"

        I think it evolved from "Don't dare" originally; you would be implied as the subject. When we conjugate it without you, it sounds unwieldy.
