        "Terrific" used to be a stronger version of "terrible", just like "horrific" is for "horrible".

        Yes. That's called *amelioration which is a type of semantic change whereby a word acquires favourable connotations over time. * Amelioration-- From latin meliorare means improve.

        IT IS a false friend in Spanish. Because being a positive adjective, it sounds negative to Spanish ears (due to its similarity with 'terrible').
