Nobody has to be taught *how* to think. That's even worse brainwashing than being told *what* to think.

I dont think it's meant as a bad thing. My dad taught me how to look at a problem and figure out ways to solve it, how to look at certain situations and react accordingly. He taught me the importance of logic and honesty. Its not so much "you need to think this way", more guiding

It gave me the tools to grow as a person, make my own decisions on certain things like religion and politics, not be stuck in a rut and just believe exactly what I've heard him or somebody else say. It gave me my own mind. That's what it means, I think

... certain popular patterns of thinking in society which I don't see as beneficial, that count more as 'hows' of thought than 'whats' of thought, and they can only be perpetuated from one generation to the next by indoctrinating the young.

Okay I understand your point there. And you are absolutely right, I've think we've seen this younger generation stray from the norm in that respect. Acting very differently from generations before them (us)

I couldn’t agree with you more. Schools should be more like the real world. Children should be provided with real world experiences and prepared to solve complex and real-world problems. They should NEVER EVER be taught what to think!

Teaching children morals as the foundation for decision making will lead to them making good choices in life. Otherwise you'll be forced to address the countless list of "do's & don't's" as they occur. AKA micro-managing.

Open mindedness, not naívety. Understanding, but w/a filter of what's worth the time. Asking why? letting them determine possible answers. Divergent thoughts on divergent matters, convergent on convergent. People already teach them How, they just dont realise.
