To the uninitiated and simple minded, problem solving is binary, black or white. To the wise(r), challenges are various shades of grey, coupled with the knowledge of one’s own ignorance.

Information does not equal knowledge. One has many things they should learn in life but the ability to form and generate knowledge is a skill and needs to develop at the individuals pace, no matter how much information is accessible to them.

@Naval sums this up well: Also, turns out learning takes effort.pic.twitter.com/hI1bO6Z2jR

I saw this and immediately scrolled down my Twitter feed anyway. Because I am truly lost.

I for one have found many invaluable resources for learning here. (And a surprising number of non-garbage ones via the chans, but that's another story)

Living next door to a university does not get you educated. Studying in it does. It is only through our minds' laborious acquisition of facts and reason that one achieves skill, understanding and wisdom. A device that induces laziness should never be mistaken for a teacher.
-
But if the device, or devices, are used wisely they could provide for free the information that used to only be obtained at a university.
-
Undoubtedly so. Yet somehow I see more people becoming dumb and lazy from these devices dubbed smart and fast. The real smart guys are those companies who get rich - and very rich at that - by getting us addicted to devices apps and content.

Contra/caveat: For some (me included) learning is a pleasure which has added to it ambition as extra fuel. For others, ignoring the Alexandria in their pocket is evidence of a well-calibrated life. Practical knowledge (artisinal) plus rest and a social life is not pathological.
-
You can consider this more of a caveat because there are definitely many who want to teach themselves something but can't tear away from Instagram for ten seconds.

Kind of emphasises the notion that humans inherently care more about social lives than they do about intelligence and knowledge, yes? I mean we literally have only had access to this much knowledge for mere years on the timeline of our existence.
-
Information, wisdom and intelligence are different things. Without wisdom you cannot recognize bad information. Without intelligence you cannot change the world

There is only so much a human brain can absorb and retain. This is elitist idea that everyone should be holed up in books. Most people don't need it and devoting too much time to it is inefficient.
-
What’s other more ideal of learning/improving oneself do you recommend?
-
TBH I don't know. There can't be one universally best way to learn/grow/achieve happiness. But it sure doesn't involve being condescending towards not walking 'your noble path'. Different people learn through different ways some by reading, some in workshop. Explore and enjoy.
-
Fair point...know thyself and walk your path Each to each own
-
Cheers to that.
